Just
who do we think we are?
This site was originally set up by Mike McMonagle for and on
behalf of the branch of McMonagles whose family home has been
in Milton, Glasgow, Scotland since 1957. The site was a means
of coercing Mike's seven surviving brothers and sisters to keep
in touch after some had married and dispersed throughout the
UK and, in the case of Moira, as far as upstate New York. It
did the trick and we are all in regular contact through all
mediums.
Before long we found that there was a huge amount of interest
from McMonagles and their kith and kin from all over the world.
We had guestbook entries from Australia to Zimbabwe and a great
interest from North America. It was obvious that the stance
of the site had moved beyond the role of updating the brothers
and sisters when addresses changed, birthday reminders and that
little bit about our family origins. Our family tree was a 'mere
twig' in comparison to the 'mighty oak' started by Stevie McBride
on behalf of his wife Anne McMonagle - a first cousin of this
site's originator. Stevie's activity on this front has been
amazing and lasting. people often give up after some hurdles
but not the McBride fella. He thinks if it was that easy it
wouldn't be so interesting.
